Students received their tests back, but only to see his/her score, as they need to hand them back in before they left today since all test have not been taken. Students who received a 75% or below are to answer the questions on pgs. 31 and 32 - problems 1-25 as homework. It is due on MONDAY.

We watched the beginning of Planet Earth by the BBC. This is an extraordinary series that we will be watching throughout the year.

Each student needs to have 4 products turned in on Monday. A data chart, Bar, Line and Pie graph showing the results from their candy sample. Friday is a work day to complete the lab.

Today we talked about pollution, the burning of fossil fuels, types of smog, and alternatives.


Students also worked in groups to describe and define various topics that we have studied and will be on the test.

Literature 8


We discussed "foreshadowing" in literature and began reading "Flowers for Algernon". This is a short story in our Literature Textbook based on the novel by Daniel Keyes.

Science 8

We corrected our assignment due today and began some conversion problems. A conversion worksheet was assigned for independent practice. A helpful link is attached to check answers.

Social Studies 8


Students provided information to consruct a chart on the board about the economic sectors that Grandpas and Grandmas, and Moms and Dads have or currently work in. Students compared the graphs to see how the economy has been changing or SHIFTING.


We viewed a 7 minute video called "Shift Happens" that discussed how the population is different in different areas of the world, how the economy is changing due to technological advances, and other facts about the world today that help to put the importance of preparing for a role in a global community into perspective.


Assignment: Read Chapter 3, Section 2 (p. 67-71) and complete the cherry colored study guide.

7th Grade Math

Homework: Chapter 1 Study Guide and Review. Pages 46-48. Problems 6-60. Quiz tomorrow, chapter 1 test on Thursday, notes due on Thursday.

Today we discussed "Flashbacks".

We began measurement in Chapter 2. The students were assigned a note packet to prepare them for an upcoming lab. Current grades were also recorded in the agenda.

We finished taking the last of our notes on the "layers of the atmosphere". Additionally, students read in groups section 1.4 and answered the Key Terms/Concepts. If they were not done in class (which they were given time to do), then it is homework and due tomorrow.

Today we reviewed Section 1 - Population Geography. We discussed how the economy is related to populations and resources available. We also discussed the four main sectors of economies around the world.

Assignment: No Textbook Needed - Economics/Math Worksheet. For the Math side, students will calculate population densities for 8 countries - divide the population by the area - then graph the results in a bar graph. For the Economics side, students will need to find the jobs that their parents and grandparents have/had and then catagorize them into primary, secondary, tertiary, or quaternary services. We will discuss the results in class tomorrow. The purpose is to see if the economy in our area has changed over time.

We finished listening to "The Monkey's paw". Today we listened to "The Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe. No homework!

We continued our discussion about density, altitude, air pressure and barometers. We also took a few notes on the layers of the atmosphere - specifically the troposphere. GRS 1.2 due tomorrow.

Science 7

Students took a POP Notebook Quiz on section 1.2. The quiz was based upon their homework that was to be done in their notebooks. If they completed the homework, the quiz was no problem :)
In some classes we were able to discuss density, altitude, air pressure, etc. We will continue tomorrow.

Science 7

Today was the final day for the measurement lab. All students know that if they still need to complete the lab, they need to come in on their own time to finish (i.e. study hall, before or after school, etc.) Groups discussed the question, does air have mass? They were given a few "tools" to demonstrate their answer. Each group had to problem solve, work together and use discovery learning in order to succeed. These groups then presented their findings to the class.

We began section 1.2 today (Chapter 1, section 2). The homework was to complete the reading and answer the Key Concept and Key Terms on page 10. The questions/terms need to be written in and answered in their notebook. REMEMBER...Bring your notebook to class tomorrow - no passes out to get them(hint, hint)!

Literature 8

We finished up "Dialect" today and discussed "Dialogue". A short writing assignment was given...most students finished during class.

Science 8

Discussed Career X-word assignment. A vocabulary list was provided to help those still "searching" for the correct answers. A second, more student friendly, career matching assignment is due on Wednesday. We are preparing for our first test on Friday!

Applied Math 7

Literature 8

Today we discussed Dialect. The students listened to a folktale told with a southern drawl. Literary Technique packet work time was provided.

Science 8

We corrected Chapter 1.3 review assignment "Why Study Science?" and discussed careers in science. Assignment is a crossword dealing with careers in the science field. The students will have to look outside of the text (Internet, encyclopedia, dictionary, etc.) to complete this assignment.

Science 7


Today student continued to work on the measurement lab. They had an opportunity to work together as a team to accomplish a common goal and to work on accuracy. Most students enjoyed the hands on work and worked well.

I also returned the GRS 1.1 that was turned in last week. All corrections are due tomorrow. We are moving on to air mass and density tomorrow.

Friday is our weekly library time for free-reading; library books are due September 26th.

Today we discussed an upcoming project called Science Showcase. It is not due until October 27...but I wanted the kids to have plenty of time. Ask your child about it!
We also discussed how science is every where and why we study it. A review worksheet was assigned using pages 24-29 in their text. Due on Monday.

  • To reinforce the importance of measuring accurately, students began a measurement lab (both length and mass). The lab will continue on Monday.
