Social Studies 7

Yesterday we started a new unit, Anthropology. Both yesterday and today we began introductions to the topic and the students worked on Reading Summaries in class.

Algebra

Lesson 4.7, pages 252-255. Problems 20-36 even, 44-48, and 52-66. Test and note check on Monday.

7th Grade Math

Finish yesterday's homework, worksheets. Today's homework is Lesson 4-6, page 180. Problems 8-25. Quiz Friday, test and note check on Monday.

Pre-Algebra

Lesson 4-7, pages 190-191. Problems 6-33. Quiz on Friday, test and note check on Monday.

Science 8

Chapter 3.3 Meiosis assignment was corrected. We discussed meiosis and our partner activity. Students will be pairing up, determining their traits, simulate meiosis and produce an "offspring" sharing the traits from the "parents". Any genetic disorders will be researched.

Literature 8


Chapter 5-6 was discussed/reviewed. The review assignment turned in and extra credit offered. Extra credit is due Friday!

Applied Math 7

Students with a C or lower on the Mid-Chapter test were given the opportunity to make corrections. 1/2 point will be given for each correction made.

Science 7



Continuing with talking about longitude, latitude, the prime meridian, etc. - we corrected and discussed the GRS 1.2 about the Models of Earth.


The students also read a brief passage on technology, GPS, pixels, digitizing and more. The assignment was to complete the key terms/concepts for 1.3.

Social Studies 7

Today was opportunity for a few students to take a retest for the Sociology test. Students needed to hand in the correctives and in Mrs. Moran's class, had to have the first test signed by a parent/guardian turned in today.
No further assignment that needs to be done at home tonight.

Pre-Algebra

Mid-chapter 4 test, page 174. Problems 1-16. Study guide worksheets, all problems. Enrichment is extra-credit. Test/quiz/note grade tomorrow.

7th Grade Math

Students in Periods 1-3 took the Explore Test in the IMC. 4th Hour students reviewed materials for the upcoming Chapter 10 Quiz (Monday) and Unit 3 Test (Wednesday). Students were again reminded to take their notes home to STUDY.

Vocab/Map packets are due tomorrow for 2nd and 3rd hours - many students in 1st hour still need to turn in these packets as well

We worked on the GRS 1.2 for the Models of Earth section. Most students finished in class. We talked about the different types of projections (Mercator, Equal-Area, and Conic) and various latitudes and longitude lines.

Science 8

Our Punnett square practice sheets were corrected today. We discussed human traits today in class. The assignment for today is to read pages 84-89 in their text AND complete questions 1-5 All for Thursday

Literature 8


Chapters 1-2 review questions were turned in today...or should have been! Read chapters 3-4 for Thursday. (I read chapter three to the class)

Social Studies 8


Today students reviewed Chapters 7-9 for the Unit 3 Test. We also reviewed Chapter 10, sections 1-2 for the Chapter 10 Quiz. The Chapter 10 Quiz will be either this Friday or next Monday depending on when the Explore test is rescheduled. Students need to be bringing home their study guides to review on a nightly basis.

Assignment: Read Chapter 10, Section 3 and complete the notes. Vocab/map packet - can be turned in today, or taken home and finished as homework.

We reviewed Chapters 1-2. Questions were assigned as homework. Most students finished during work time.

Social Studies 7

The students were given their test back today. We reviewed the test in class, and they were handed back in. The students that earned an 80% or lower have an opportunity for a retake. In order to qualify for the retake, the students must complete the corrections packet (using complete sentences and following all directions). Also, Mrs. Moran's class has to have their test signed if student earned below a 75%

Health 7

Students took their ALcohol, and Other Drug Awareness unit test in class.
Permission slips for Human Growth and Development were due today. If they are not returned by Wed. students will not be able to remain in class and will be given an alternate assignment.

Health 8

Check, call, care- action steps were covered inclass today. Students learned how to remove gloves to prevent disease transmission and how to cehck a conscious adult.

Students shoud continue working on their nutrition projects. The first and second three day food log comparison is due Wednesday.

Applied Math 8

Lesson 3-4: Adding Integers
Assignment: p. 122-123 #5-22, #31-42 (#5-10 were done together in class)

Social Studies 8

Chapter 9 Quiz today. Students who were absent last Friday took their map quizzes and worked on the Chapter 9 Review.
Assignment: Read Chapter 10 (Brazil) Sections 1-2 and complete the notes

Langauge Arts - 8 (12/8-12/12)

This week we are working on vocabulary words that deal with fairness and unfairness. The packet is due on Wednesday along with the quiz being on Thursday.

Monday we are going to be working on the nonverbal cues behind our voices: pitch, tone, volume, articulation, and accent. We will be doing some practice with different vocal cues and preparing for our speeches that begin Wednesday. Remember to bring in a monologue, children's story, or poem to read for the class. You will be graded on your interpretation of the reading using your body language, gestures, facial exressions, pitch, tone, volume, etc. The speech will be worth 50 points so make sure to practice!

The students finished their salt dough maps. They painted the models and map, made corresponding keys, and gave the various definitions and types of land forms (coastal plains, interior plains, mountains, mt. ranges, plateau, etc).

Today students took their test on Unit 4 - Sociology.

Algebra

Students took a quiz on lessons 4.1 thru 4.3. Homework is extra practice worksheet 4.3B, problems 1-32.

7th Grade Math

Students took a short test today. Homework is Page 572, lesson 4-3. Problems 2-26 (check your solutions).

Applied Math 8


Today we reviewed Lesson 3-3 (the Coordinate Plane) and corrected yesterday's assignment.

Today's assignment is the 3-3 Packet which includes one page where students work with a map of the world - students can take an atlas home with them if they do not complete the assignment in class today.

Science 8

I missed Thursday...sorry!

We practiced Punnett squares yesterday...with students expected to complete some on their own. Today we will correct and discuss the correct answers. We will also pair up and predict offspring from "pea" traits as Mendel did about 200 years ago.

Literature 8

I missed Thursday...my apologies!

Today we discussed the reading assigned for today...chapters 1-2...in The Red Badge of courage. We had a mini history lesson on the civil war and labeled a U.S. map accordingly.

Pre-Algebra

Pop test today of 10 questions on the last two lessons. Homework: Page 624, lesson 4-3 (1-6).

Social Studies 8


Chapter 9 Map Quiz and Note Check today. Both grades will be posted on Family Access today.

Students were given an in-class review assignment for the Chapter 9 Quiz on Monday. The review included all 50 questions that will be on Monday's quiz.

Science 7

Today the students had a land formation lab. They worked in groups to form the 3 main types of land formations that we are studying out of salt dough. They also made a map of the continental United States and showed its topography. The maps will dry over night and the students will continue to work on them tomorrow (making legends, painting, explaining the concepts of elevation as it is related to relief, and more).

Social Studies 7

We discussed the review part 2 for tomorrow's test. The students were given the two review assignments that were completed and corrected in class to use as a study guide for tomorrow's test. These reviews must be turned in tomorrow in order to receive full credit.

7th Grade Math

Lesson 4-3, pages 162-163. Problems 4-41. Extra credit due tomorrow.

Social Studies 8


Today we reviewed ALL sections of Chapter 9 for the Quiz on Monday. We also reviewed the Chapter 9 map for the Map Quiz tomorrow. Remember, the note check is also tomorrow, so make sure all your study guides are filled in.
Students were given a 10 question vocabulary worksheet as an in-class assignment - these should have been turned in before leaving.

The last 15 minutes of class time were given for students to study for the map quiz and the chapter quiz.

Parents, if you are concerned that you haven't seen any social studies homework, maps and study guides can be taken home. Quiz questions come right off the study guides, so if you would like to help your child study for Monday's quiz, have them bring home their study guides home and go over that information with them.

Pre-Algebra

Lesson 4-3, pages 168-169. Problems 6-19 and 21-24. Extra-credit due tomorrow.

Family and Consumer Education - 8th Grade

The students have begun their Food Service Unit in both 2nd and 3rd hours. They should be reviewing their vocabulary of cooking terms and equivalents from last year. We will be working toward our food service simulation which should be hold after the new year.

The students in 1st hour will be studying the qualities of employable teens and working on their Architectural Design unit.

Science 8

We corrected and discussed G. Mendel and vocabulary questions 1-15. The students went into the computer lab to complete a genetic web lab. No homework!

Literature 8

We began reading "The Red Badge of Courage" today starting only with the introduction. The students were asked to define bravery and answer a few questions.

Algebra

Graphing Linear Equations :) Lesson 4.2, pages 214-215. Problems 16-64 even.

Health 8

Students handed in their food log and graphs today as well as suggestions for diet improvements. Students should be keeping track of their food intake for a three day period, implementing their suggestions. The food log should be completed by Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Students also completed their Nutrition Unit test in class today.

All should continue working on their semester health goal.

Health 7

Studens learned about inhalant abuse and how to keep themselves safe when around toxic fumes.

Corrected Lesson 31. Students were again encouraged to make ALL corrections on their assignments for the best grade possible. Homework scores are just as important as test scores.

Today we reviewed Chapter 9, Section 3: Colombia and Venezuela as well as reviewing Sections 1 and 2 for the quiz on Monday.
Students were given back their Chapter 9 maps and we went over the places on the quiz using the new overhead. The Chapter 9 Map Quiz and Note Check are on Friday.
Assignment: Read Sections 4-5 (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and the Southern Cone) and complete the notes. Study all notes and the Chapter 9 map for upcoming quizzes!

Science 7

We are starting a new chapter today...as well as using a new book! We are now studying about the Earth's surface. We're reading section 1.1 today in class and discussing the main ideas and terms.

We will be talking about topography (elevation, relief) and land forms/regions (plains, plateaus, and mountain)

Social Studies 7

We are continuing to review for our upcoming test on Friday 12/5/08. Today students will begin a new review on Sociology.
Yesterday students received information in regards to options for this units "projects". They are not mandatory, but are needed in order to gain an A in the class. These projects are due this Friday.

Language Arts - 8 (12/2-12/5)

This week in language arts the vocabulary schedule will be different. The packet will be due Thursday, December 4th, and the quiz will be on Friday, December 5th.

Friday we will go to the library after the quiz, so make sure to bring your library books because they are due on the 5th!

This week we are beginning a unit on nonverbal communication. We will be learning the importance of posture, facial expressions, body language and vocal cues. The students will be doing group pantomines this week and other activities to enhance their understanding of nonverbal communication. The final assessment for this unit will begin next week and it will involve a nonverbal speech where students individually read a monologue.

Essays were due November 25th, but there are still a few who need to turn in their paper. Major assignments go down one letter grade for every day late.

Social Studies 8


Today we reviewed Chapter 9 (Middle America and Spanish-Speaking South America) Sections 1 and 2 about Central America and the Caribbean. The Chapter 9 schedule is on the board - the map quiz and note check will be on Friday, and the Chapter 9 quiz on Monday. Students are reminded to review their notes and maps daily.

In class work: Complete the Chapter 9 map and TURN IN before you leave

Assignment: Read Section 3 (273-277) about Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador and complete the notes.

Students learned about inhalant abuse in class today. Ways to protect yourself against toxic chemicals was discussed.

Health 8

Students worked in computer lab on food graphs for their nutrition project. Students can access information at www.mypyramid.gov .
Graphs should have been completed today. Suggestions for improving the diet, along with the food diary and graphs are due on 12/2.
Students should also continue working on their semester health goal and tracking their progress in their journals.
Don't forget Nutrition Unit test on 12/2. It will be an open notes/book test, so please have all materials organized and with you in class on Tuesday. You will not be permitted to go to your locker to retrieve materials.

Science 8

We read "Frankenstein" in a play form during first hour. Second hour had "mandatory"extra credit due to the honor roll trip. Have a great Thanksgiving break.
