Science 8

Invertebrates
Each student was assigned one of twelve invertebrate groups to research using their text and one additional source (provided). They have tomorrow to finish the research during class.

Literature 8

Health 7

Students learned about the male reproductive system in class today. Students are to finish reading pp. 220-224 and complete the crossword puzzle.

Health 8

Students began the American Red Cross First Aid & Safety class today. Upon successful completion of the class, students will be certified for First Aid and Adult CPR. Students learned about how to recognize an emergency and reasons why people do not react in a situation.

Students worked in their groups to analyze items 6.7 - 6.14 of their DBQ packets. The analyzations are due tomorrow and will be discussed in class.

All social studies classes participated in a presentation about involvement in the high school by Mrs. Willems and high school students, and also completed an interest survey.

We've started our last group presentations - Rocks! Each class has a different assignment tonight, but all are due tomorrow. Each class will have a quiz on rocks on Wednesday. After that, we start our new topics in astronomy!!

Science 7

The classes are doing a great job so far on their subject presentations. We have finished plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes. Tomorrow there will be a mineral quiz, which will complete our mineral section. Also due tomorrow is the mineral packet that was given out on Tuesday. The rock groups will begin their presentations on Monday May 4.
*I have offered extra credit for students, but haven't had a lot of takers...

Algebra

Students learned about portion sizes and BMI today. Complete worksheet if you did not finish in class.
Assignment: Bring in 5 food labels from your favorite snack foods and beverages. A t least 3 snack labels and 1 beverage label minimum.

Health 7

Students completed test today. Make sure you turn in your parent-signed Human Growth and Development permission slip by Friday.

Social Studies 8

Today students learned that WWI marked the beginning of modern warfare through the use of airplanes, poison gas, and machine guns. WWI also marked the first use of trench warfare. Students learned about the unpleaseant conditions soldiers experienced while in the trenches, then participated in a simulation of trench warfare. Students concluded that trench warfare is an ineffective strategy because it results in a stalemate.

Assignment: Complete the Trench Warfare worksheet - due today in class if finished, otherwise can be turned in tomorrow with no penalty.

Applied Math 7

Students completed an activity Portion Distortion, which identified how we tend to eat larger portion sizes than we need. Students then learned about BMI and the energy balance equation.

Assignment: complete handout and bring in 5 food labels from favorite snack foods- at least 3 of them must be snack foods.

Applied Math 7

Review for Test 17 was done together in class.

Social Studies 8

Today students participated in an alliance simulation. Students belonged to different countries on an imaginary continent. Given background information and the goal of keeping peace, students worked to form alliances with other countries, then reacted, based on their alliances, to events that occurred on the continent.

Science 8

Planting of seeds today.
Students also read an article on Propagation of Seeds with questions(DUE at the end of class WEDNESDAY!).
A 3-D project sheet was also passed out so they can begin planning.

Literature 8

Health 7

Lesson 85 was completed together in class. Students should have shown work and submitted their worksheets before leaving. Students will not recieve points on problems that do not have work shown since all the work was shown on the overhead.

Social Studies 8

Today we discussed background information on the causes of WWI including the rise of nationalism, militarism, imperialism, and the formation of secret alliances.
Students have a four-part homework assignment - (1) list the tensions in Europe prior to WWI *this was done in class,* (2) list the countries involved in the two main alliances - the Central Powers and the Allied Powers, (3) color a map and make a key showing the locations of the Central Powers and Allied Powers, and finally (4) write a paragraph explaining the benefits and risks of forming alliances between countries *discussed in class.*
