For first and seventh hour, the 3.3 GRS is due tomorrow. Second, fourth, and eighth hour turned them in today. We are completing our water erosion/deposition models, and are presenting them to the class.

I am excited to say that Ms. Lewis and myself are teaming up to make Friendship Bread as part of our Microbe Unit in Science. Students are mixing the ingredients in F.C.E. class while we collect data in my room. They had many questions and are excited about this lab.

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

We reviewed the numbers from zero to thirty-nine. We pronounced and started learning the numbers 40,50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100. We covered two pages in the textbook. The students had classtime to make valentines in Spanish. No HW. Next week: quiz on the numbers (Wed.?) and we will start the map project. Feliz Dia de San Valentin

Second Hour: We read and discussed chapter 6. A vocabulary assignment was given...due on Friday.

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

The corrected quizzes on the colors were handed back to the students. They reviewed the forms of "ser" (to be) orally. They went over the assignment for today. They wrote the numbers from 0 to 39 in their notebooks. They practiced pronouncing the numbers correctly. The students learned how to ask a person their age, and how to respond accordingly. HW: Study the numbers for tomorrow.

Social Studies 8

We went over yesterday's Outlining the Constitution packet before turning it in. Today, we completed our packet about Congress at Work and Finding Our Way Through the Constitution. This packet was completed as a class, so no one should have any homework. Students will turn this packet in tomorrow. There was time at the end of each hour for students who are missing work to complete and submit it.

The rest of this week, students will be learning about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Today in class students learned that the Articles of Confederation was our first attempt at setting up a national (federal) government, but this document did not give enough power to the national government to be effective, resulting in the Constitution. Students also learned about the origins of the Constitution.
Homework: Students need to complete the Green vocabulary sheet and read the Constitution, Articles I-III (starting on p. 188 in their books) for tomorrow.

We learned the Spanish words for the colors today. We practiced the pronunciations. Students were given time to practice with partners. We played a game to review the colors.

There will be a quiz on the colors the middle of next week. No homework assignment.

Today we discussed and corrected the 3.2 Water Erosion GRS. The students also were either paired or placed into groups. The pairs/groups began to sketch out a design for their water erosion/deposition display.

Our Mid-Chapter TEST/QUIZ has been moved to Thursday 2/4/10.

Any unfinished "Classification" activites were completed. Review notes were provided and discussed. A Domain/Kingdom study chart was assigned and is due tomorrow. The students will be having a pop quiz on Wednesday.

My apologies for forgetting to complete the blog yesterday! Both classes reviewed and discussed our book choices. Each hour chose a different book. Make sure you check the appropriate hour for assignments in the future.

First Hour: The Pigman...We read an article about the author and his motivation for the story.

Second Hour: And Then There Were None...We discussed mysteries, the author and made some predictions.

Social Studies 8

Reviewed previously covered material in preparation for the American Revolution Test on Monday, February 8.

Students were given background information on the Declaration of Independence including thoughts and concepts behind the declaration, as well as the three main points, and an explanation of a "social contract."

Homework: Students need to read the Declaration of Independence (annotated paper copies were given to each student, and it can also be found in their books) and prepare for a discussion on the declaration tomorrow by completing the Questions for Contemplation found in their blue packets.
