Today we begin our textbook unit. This unit will cover historical events that occurred between the American Revolution and the Civil War (Chapters 8-11 in our books). Students will be learning how to identify important information when reading a text book, and how to take notes out of a text book (important skills that are appliciable across many subject areas).
Students should expect daily homework throughout the course of this unit, however, there will ALWAYS be time to start (probably even finish) the homework in class. The homework will provide progressively less scaffolding as the unit progresses. The purpose of the homework is to help students become proficient at finding main points in a social studies text book - it is not busy work.
Today we read Chapter 8, Section 1 (Jefferson Becomes President) together in class.
Homework: Complete the "Jefferson Becomes President" Worksheet (purple) which will help to reinforce the main points of the section.
