Science 8

We took notes on Seedless, Vascular plants: Ferns, Club Moss and Horsetails. As a review we compared yesterday's notes with today's.
A review for 4.3 & 4.4 was given. Students also had time to observe living Ferns and spore cases...Thank you to New House of Design for their donation to our lab today!

Our vocabulary was corrected today. We need to work on using terms in sentences...some were a bit rough.
We located Switzerland, England and Malaysia as possible ports and/or location for the shipwreck and discussed what 10 items we would want to salvage and use for survival on the island.
Read Chapters 1 & 2 for homework!

Social Studies 8

Review of the four main causes for tension in Europe prior to WWI.
Secret Alliance simulation - ask your student for details.
HOMEWORK: written response to today's simulation: If Penland invades Bahkan how will your country be involved? Explain what alliances your country has made which involve your country in a continent-wide conflict.

Science 8

A quick refresher of plants today. We then focused on nonvascular plants called the Bryophytes: Moss, Liverwort and Hornworts. A few notes were given and students had time to view moss and its structures under the dissecting scopes.

REMINDERS:
Science Showcase is due one week from today.
Chapter 4 test is scheduled for this Friday.

Literature 8

We started Swiss Family Robinson today by reading a descriptive introduction. Students were given the Chapter's 1-6 Study Guide and assigned the vocabulary section. Define the twelve words and use them in a sentence...due tomorrow.

Language Arts 7

Students who want to go on the Milwaukee Holocaust Museum field trip need to have their permission slip and payment turned in tomorrow (April 13th)!

Students were given these forms on March 29th and very few have been turned in! I have given many students new permission forms, so look for the purple sheets they are hopefully bringing home!

This is a great opportunity and I would love for all students to attend!! Thanks!

Language Arts/Literature 7

Language Arts 7

Students should be reviewing the contents of their poetry portfolios. It will be a big poetry week when we get back from break! Students should also be practicing their poem for the poetry recitation competition! I told them it is cool to randomly recite their poem over spring break!!

Literature 7

Students have a take home test for the novel Killing Mr. Griffin. This take home test will be due the Thursday when we get back from break. It would be wise (if students are able) to begin this take home test over break. It may help relieve some stress later!

Also, if you have Skyward access and notice that the literature grades are unusually low, it is because I have had a rash of students not turning things in. These grades can always be changed; however, I wanted to put in the missing grades as a reminder for students.

Science 7

Each class took their plate tectonic quest today. There are no new assignments over break:) Earthquake groups please remember your will be presenting when we get back from break!

We took a review quiz for the prefix lists M-P. We also had an observation lab ...viewing plant stems, leaves and stoma. A chromatography lab was also available to do. THANK YOU TO NEW HOUSE OF DESIGN FLORAL for the supplies used today!No homework!

We read through the rest of the Scope magazine and the kids had a review to finish that followed along with the play we read yesterday. The review should have been turned in...No Homework...have a nice break!

Today, the plate tectonic groups finished up their presentations. There will be a "quest" tomorrow, so make sure you study! You need to use the notes from the presentation, any review sheets if you have them, and you book.

Math 7(Moran)

Lesson 8-4, page 353 with problems 11-27. There are also 3 new vocabulary words that need to be completed.

Science 8

Notes on Plants were presented and completed. We had a short graphing assignment noting two factors that affect Photosynthesis...temperature and light intensity.

We chose our next novel...The Swiss Family Robinson...which will begin after break.
We also read from Scope magazine an excerpt from the play Twelfth Night.

We finished our movie today and our comparison to the book. Tomorrow we will be choosing our next book for after break.

Science 7

The plate tectonic groups are still presenting to the class. Each hour has a section assignment/worksheet that is due tomorrow. Most of 1st and 2nd hour were able to complete the activity in class.

Wednesday is our reviewing day for plate tectonics, Thursday is our quiz/test = "quest"

Today, we also talked about 4th quarter expectations. These expectations are the same ones that have been discussed each of the preceding quarters. Assignments are expected to be completed on the due date. For 4th Quarter, if a student does not have an assignment completed for the day it is due, the student will be expected to stay after school either that day or the following day. The student needs to make transportation arrangements to be picked up at 3:45pm.

Math 7 (Moran)

Tonight's assignment is the Mid-Chapter 8 review on page 346. The quiz and mid-chapter test is tomorrow.

Expectations for 4th Quarter were reviewed. Parents will be interested to know that if homework is not complete the day it is due, Ms. Francoeur will be expecting your child to stay after school that day to complete it.
All this week students will be learning about the highlights in U.S. History between the Civil War and WWI. We will start WWI when we get back from Spring Break. Today students learned about Reconstruction and Americans moving West. Students have a packet to complete as the y listen to the lecture. Some answers are part of the powerpoint presentation, and some questions can only be answered by paying attention to the actual lecture. This packet will be due on Thursday. There will be no homework from Social Studies this week - participation in class will make up the first grade of the quarter.

We finished the movie "Charly" today and made a comparison between our short story and the movie. The students will be comparing the 1968 version to a 2005 production titled Flowers for Algernon.

Social Studies 8

No extra time allowed - organization was important on this test.
Notes needed to be turned in with the test to make sure there was no passing off of notes to students in other hours who did not participate in taking notes over the last week.

Today's topic: "Daily Life During the War"

The Civil War Test is Thursday. This test is predominantly short answer - notes are allowed. Test reviews happen every day at the beginning of class. Students have been encouraged to make sure their notes are organized so they can complete the test in the allotted time. Test questions go in order along with the notes, and again, are reviewed EVERY DAY.

Applied Math 7

We were back in the computer lab today, working on group chapter presentations. The final copy of their notes were due at the end of the hour today, if they were not completed, students were encouraged to come in at lunch or before/after school to make sure they have access and the time to complete the presentation. Most of the presentations that I have seen so far look great! In most classes, tomorrow is the last day in the computer lab to finish everything up.

Math 7 (Moran)

Students received their chapter 7 quiz and test back today.
We started chapter 8. Tonight's assignment is on pgs 334-337, Lesson 8-1, #'s 15-32, 36-42.

Science 8

Fungi Packet corrected today. We had a review activity to help us study for the chapter 3 test on Wednesday. Key terms on page 98 may be defined for extra credit but are due at the start of class on Tuesday.
No homework....so STUDY!
