English - We had to finish our introduction to MLA citation and plagiarism with what little time we had left. It was fast and furious, but the students should be feeling a little more comfortable with these skills as we head into the library tomorrow for the beginning of our research paper unit. *Note: We did lose 5th hour to an honor roll assembly, so these students may not be as familiar with these skills. I will work with the IMC staff to catch them up the best we can.
Literature - The students read a short story by Gary Soto titled, "Broken Chain." We briefly discussed Gary Soto and his rationale for writing short stories that highlight the hispanic culture. Tomorrow we will begin to look into the main character, Alfonso, and how Soto utilized characterization to provide us with information about him.
I strongly encourage students to utilize their time wisely in literature class. I have many students who are not using the time I give them to read or work on an assignment. It is far too early in the quarter to fall behind!

Lesson 45: Multiplying Decimal Numbers
After practice with multiplying decimal numbers students were given back pop quizzes from Friday. Students were given the option to correct missed problems for half credit (half a point for each problem corrected). Students were also given the test review for Test 9 tomorrow and were encouraged not only to work through all the problems, but to write themselves notes about how they solved the problems, since review questions and test questions are very similar. Students will be allowed to use the test review and any notes they wrote themselves about the review on the test tomorrow.
Assignment: Study for Test 9 (all lessons through Lesson 45) and complete Test Review for use on the test tomorrow.
