Today, the plate tectonic groups finished up their presentations. There will be a "quest" tomorrow, so make sure you study! You need to use the notes from the presentation, any review sheets if you have them, and you book.

Science 7

The plate tectonic groups are still presenting to the class. Each hour has a section assignment/worksheet that is due tomorrow. Most of 1st and 2nd hour were able to complete the activity in class.

Wednesday is our reviewing day for plate tectonics, Thursday is our quiz/test = "quest"

Today, we also talked about 4th quarter expectations. These expectations are the same ones that have been discussed each of the preceding quarters. Assignments are expected to be completed on the due date. For 4th Quarter, if a student does not have an assignment completed for the day it is due, the student will be expected to stay after school either that day or the following day. The student needs to make transportation arrangements to be picked up at 3:45pm.

Math 7 (Moran)

Tonight's assignment is the Mid-Chapter 8 review on page 346. The quiz and mid-chapter test is tomorrow.

All this week students will be learning about the highlights in U.S. History between the Civil War and WWI. We will start WWI when we get back from Spring Break. Today students learned about Reconstruction and Americans moving West. Students have a packet to complete as the y listen to the lecture. Some answers are part of the powerpoint presentation, and some questions can only be answered by paying attention to the actual lecture. This packet will be due on Thursday. There will be no homework from Social Studies this week - participation in class will make up the first grade of the quarter.

Test questions go in order along with the notes, and again, are reviewed EVERY DAY.

We were back in the computer lab today, working on group chapter presentations. Most of the presentations that I have seen so far look great! In most classes, tomorrow is the last day in the computer lab to finish everything up.

We again were working in the computer lab. For groups that were working everyday in the labs for the past 2 weeks, there is no homework, as the work was completed in class. There are some groups that need to finish their worksheets or rough drafts over the weekend.
In addition, a few students have missing assignments. Make sure to turn them in by Wednesday, March 24th to count for 3rd quarter.

Math 7 (Moran)

Today, students took their chapter 7 test. There is no new homework. HOWEVER...many students are missing assignments. These assignments need to be turned in to me by Wednesday, March 24. The quarter ends on Friday, March 26th!
Students received a late work slip on Wednesday (if they had missing work). If additional work was not handed in on Thursday or Friday, that can be checked on skyward, as I did not print out another individual late/missing assignment slip.

Science 8

We had more time to finish observing various Protists and Fungi today as well as finish a review on Fungi types and structures.

We reviewed the Spanish pronunciation of the parts of the body. We played "Simon says." Students spent the last 6 minutes of class reviewing this new vocabulary with a partner.

We began our Civil War unit today. Students will be taking notes that they will be able to use on the test. Students have had extensive practice determing what information is important, so notes should not be a stressful experience.
Assignment: Students received a two-day/ two-part assignment. The first part they will be able to complete after today's lecture. The second part they will be able to complete after tomorrow's lecture. The assignment is due on Wednesday (3/17).
The Civil War Test is scheduled for Thursday, March 25. The end of 3rd Quarter is Friday, March 26 - this is also the last day that any missing work will be accepted.

We read Contagion again today. Both classes are at the same point. We should finish this short story tomorrow.

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

The students completed a worksheet in class on the numbers and telling time. Quiz: Friday on numbers and telling time.

Social Studies 8

Students will spend today and tomorrow learning about the similarities and differences of the North and South. Now that they are expert note takers, students will be reading through Chapters 12 and 13 looking for specific information about these two regions. Students will then write an essay (2 paragraph minimum) that compares and contrasts the North and the South prior to the beginning of the Civil War. This essay is due Monday, March 15. Class time is allotted for students to work.

Science 7

Today all students received their 3rd science text book. The students are now in groups/pairs and are determining how they would like to presents specific information about a chapter. Each group takes a turn in "the drivers seat". Make sure to ask them about it!

Introduction to Protists...notes on the separate phyla. Assignment is to read and answer questions about a Sarcodine: Amoeba.

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

The graded "family" vocabulary quizzes were returned to students. We did a dictado (dictation) using page 56 in the textbook. We reviewed "telling time." Assignment due tomorrow: Write 5 sentences in Spanish about your class schedule noting at what time the class commences

Health 7

Study for test on Tuesday. Look over alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana note sheets.
Make sure you bring in Human Growth and Development permission slip by Tuesday.

Health 8

Practiced care for an unconscious choking victim in classs today. Study for test on Wednesday.

Social Studies 8

We read through Chapter 11, Section 2 (The Texas Revolution) as a class and discussed important points that could be included in student outlines.
Homework: Outline Chapter 11, Section 2 using the standard outline format we have learned.

Applied Math 7

Lesson 77: Symbols of Inclusion
Practice problems - 15 done as a class; 16-30 on your own --> all due at the end of the hour.

Applied Math 8

Chapter 6 Mid-Chapter Test.

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

Students had some time to study and then they took their quiz on the "family" vocabulary. We reviewed the numbers from 1 to 99 and then practiced telling time. The completed, graded family trees were returned to the students.

Science 8

Today we had a video as an introduction to Protists. AND our second Science Showcase was assigned and is due on Monday April 19. Plenty of time to work on a quality project/experiment.

I also took the time to explain a free project in our community called 88Charlies Inc. Interested students were given an application and flier. Check it out at http://www.88charlies.com

Literature 8

First Hour presented their projects. Second hour had their last work day and watched the movie.

Health 7

Students read about and discussed the use and abuse of prescription drugs.

Health 8

Students learned and practiced Adult CPR today.

Social Studies 8

Start of Chapter 11: Expanding West
Students are now responsible for identifying important information and transferring that information into an outline for each section of Chapter 11.
Today we read Section 1: Trails to the West and Ms. Francoeur demonstrated how she would outline the section on the overhead.
Assignment: Outline Chapter 11, Section 1. Your notes need to be readable and complete. Follow the standard rules for completing an outline (No A without a B, no 1 without a 2, etc.). Complete sentences are NOT required.

Finished video "I can quit"
Discussed importance of reading OTC drug labels and practiced reading labels for information that should be acquired before taking an OTC drug.

Health 8

Practiced conscious choking victim and learned the signals of a heart attack and the cardiac chain of survival.

Many students have not turned in their Fitness Plans because they have forgotten to get a parent signature for verification. Please check with your student to make sure this is complete and turned in.

We went over the sentences written in Spanish using adjectives correctly and the "family" vocabulary. The family tree is due on Thursday. The quiz on the "family" vocabulary will be on Friday.

We corrected our Chapter review assignment. Any students with late work were given reminders. We began reviewing for the test on Chapter two...which is scheduled for Thursday!

Literature 8

Both classes took the test today. A project for the books has been assigned. They are due on Friday. Second hour will be watching the movie "And Then There Were None" on Thursday and Friday.

Social Studies 8

Today we begin Chapter 10 in our textbooks: The Age of Jackson. We read through section 1 as a class. During this chapter, students will receive very little scaffolding for completing notes in an outline manner. For this chapter ONLY students will need to use complete sentences when completing their outlines.
Assignment: Complete the Section 1 Outline.

We reviewed the "family" vocabulary words. The quiz on those words will be this coming Friday.
Assignment: Family tree - due on Thursday. Use Spanish words in making the family tree. A large sheet of paper was given to each student.

Algebra

Lesson 7.5, pages 429-431. Problems 12-17/18-28 even, 31,32, 36-38, and 43-48. Test and quiz on Friday.

Science 8

Our Mini-research project Inspirations fact sheet is due today. We are at the end of the chapter...an assignment on pages 69-70 (1-19) was assigned for a review. Due tomorrow.

Literature 8

Both classes will have the book final tomorrow. A final project will be/has been assigned with a due date of Friday for presentation. The students will have all class period this week to work on the project.

Science 7

We went over the assignment given on Tuesday/Wednesday in class. We reviewed the topics that will be covered on the upcoming test (Wednesday for 1st and 2nd hours, Thursday for 4th, 7th and 8th hours). Students were also given the essay questions ahead of time. There is no homework today except to study(all students received grs's back to study from) for the test and it would be a good choice to use your book to discover the answers for the essay questions for Thursday.

Math 7 (Moran)

Lesson 7-3: Proportions, pages 297-300 and problems 16-43. Make sure to show your work!

Social Studies 8

We reviewed the main points from Wednesday's reading including nationalism, sectionalism, the Era of Good Feeling, and the Missouri Compromise. We then read through Chapter 9, Section 3 as a class.
Assignment: Complete the "American Culture" notes outline worksheet. This is due tomorrow.
