Literature 8

We discussed Chapters 1-5 in The Pigman and completed our character comparison. The students were asked to complete 6 questions on the material read.

Science 8

We continued our work on viruses by simulating a job at a Public Health Office. The students played an interactive game involving mapping, testing and predicting the cause of a disease outbreak. The students were introduced to 7 careers in the Health field.

English/Lit 7

English - Day 2 of Internet Research Unit. No homework.

Literature -
  • We discussed some of the formalities of writing letters
  • We discussed "Dear Abby." Who is she? Why do people write to her seeking advice? How does she go about dispensing this advice?
  • Students will be writing a "Dear Abby" letter from the perspective of the main character of the short story, "Broken Chain." The students will want to use their characterization skills to make the letter authentic. They want the letter to reflect the voice of the main character, Alfonso. Students will be in the computer lab typing these letters tomorrow.
  • Homework! If students have not finished the rough draft of their "Dear Abby" letter, they will need to do so tonight.

Algebra

Students took quiz. Homework, Lesson 7.5, page 430. Problems 18-32.

7th grade math

Chapter review, pages 278-280. Problems 8-68 even. Chapter 6 test and quiz tomorrow. Note check on lessons 6-6 through 6-9.

Pre-Algebra

Lesson 6-7, pages 293-294. Problems 7-28 and 30-41.

Applied Math

Lesson 47 - Repeating Digits

Assignment: p. 217-219 (odds)

Social Studies 8

Quiz on Ch. 3, Sec. 1 - The Southern Colonies today. Quizzes will be returned either Friday or Monday.
Students began taking notes on Ch. 3, Sec 2 - The New England Colonies.
No Assignment for today, but students did receive their folders which are due back tomorrow. Grades in folders reflect 3rd quarter grades up until February 13.

Social Studies 7

Students worked on their history research project in the library and computer lab.

Science 7

Students "introduced" an igneous rock to the class, telling whether it was formed from magma or lava, intrusive or extrusive, and high or low in silica. Students then worked on a Study Guide about Igneous Rocks.
