Science 7

We worked on turning our pictures into pixels. Some students even got to the point of using the binary code system. Due tomorrow is your picture in pixels - we'll talk more about binary code tomorrow in class. For those that did not bring a logo/symbol/image, make sure to have your alternative assignment completed for tomorrow.
I will send the Mapping Earth's Surface test home tomorrow, so make sure to watch for it! Part of the homework over holiday break will be to bring that back to school signed.

7th Grade Math (Moran)

First hour: Vocabulary sheet was due today by the end of the hour; We also discussed pages 44-66 summary questions. "Tape" summaries were graded for a participation grade as well.

Second hour: Questions from Chapter Two were discussed. We read a short explanation of our characters and races found in the story. Assignment was to draw and color a Troll.

Use red insert on page 20 to identify in each of the 21 cases whether or not to call 9-1-1. You should have a yes or no answer written for each of the 21 examples to turn in tomorrow.

Student learned about the stages of addiction, tolerance and withdrawal. Complete word search for clues to helping someone trying to quit smoking.

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

Today we reviewed the forms of "ser" (to be). We discussed the fact that the majority of the adjectives in Spanish can be written in four ways. The adjectives must be written so they agree in gender and number with the noun they are describing. A lesser number of adjectives have two different spellings. Assignment: Write 12 sentences describing your friends. Use two adjectives in each sentence. (many adjectives were written on the board for students to write down in their Spanish notebooks)

Science 7

Students took their test on Chapter 1, Mapping Earths Surface.
Remember to bring in a simple image, design, symbol for us to use when working with pixels.

Students read an article on Exercise and Sport Safety and reviewed for test on Monday. Test covers all fitness notes and pp. 74-89 in the book.

Since the flashcards were due yesterday for sections 1.2 and 1.3, they were collected today. Also, we went over the GRS that was due for today (Students were repeatedly reminded of the due dates of these assignments - regardless of weather). For tomorrow, students need to complete 4 flashcards for section 1.4, all about topographic maps.

As a reminder, we will be having one more test before winter break. The test will be on either 12/17 or 12/18, depending on our pace.

7th Grade Math (Moran)

Due today was lesson 4-7, #7-36.
Assignment for tonight, due for tomorrow is the extra practice worksheets for lessons 4-6 and 4-7. The students had 25 minutes to work today during class. Many did not chose to use the time wisely, so they need to complete the assignment at home.

Our Chapter 4 test that was scheduled for Friday 12/11/09 has been rescheduled for MONDAY 12/14/09.

Students completed a dynaband workout in class today to learn basic strength training exercises that can be done at home with minimal/no equipment.

Science 8

Pop Quiz on Genetics...all notes and vocabulary allowed. We discussed Incomplete Dominance today and the students were assigned an independent practice worksheet.

Family and Consumer Education

All 7th graders should be studying their cooking vocabulary, abbreviations and equivalents sheets. They will need to pass a test on these for them to work in the kitchens each week.
Learning this information early will make for a positive and fun ending to the semester. They should also have comprehensive notes on all six of the nutrients; carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, minerals, and water. They will also be tested on their knowledge of this information.

The quiz will have the English words and the students will need to write the Spanish equivalents.

Today we read and discussed the various cloud types and formations. Students had part of the period to work on their Tic-Tac-Toe projects for 2.4 Water in the Atmosphere. They have had 3 days of class time to work on the project. Many students have finished because they used their time wisely. If the projects are not completed, it now must be finished at home as homework. It is due this Thursday 11/12/09.

Today, the students were instructed to bring their agendas to class. The students are to write "Band Lesson ___ Hour" on each day of each lesson. As they flip through their pages, they will have one band lesson written in each week and the hour that lesson will occur. The lesson schedule will stay the same as first quarter. If the student did not check off the assignment with Miss Becker at the end of class, the students will be required to show the written lesson times on Wednesday, November 11th during band!

There were some students who were unable to bring their agendas to class due to Mr. Whitmore having the agendas for grading purposes. They will need to have this completed by Wednesday, November 11th!

The students handed in their textbooks. The remaining time in the class period was spent watching the Spanish version of Pinocchio. On Monday these students will start their 8th grade health class.

Science 8

Today was a review day for the test. The students had part of the class time to finish and turn in their lab reports. We then studied for the test by completing a concept map and practiced cell structure identification. Extra credit offered for tomorrow: define the key terms on page 38. This will also help them study!

We read the sentences that students wrote about family members. We practiced pronouncing the family vocabulary as well as the adjectives found on pages 48 and 49. Assignment due on Friday: Make a family tree using the large sheet of paper given to each student. It is recommended that each student do a rough draft before doing the final copy.

Health 7

Students learned about importance of reading an over the counter drug label. Students practiced finding information on the labels of different OTC products.

Health 8

Students practiced controlling bleeding and splinting in class today.

WKCE TESTING TOMORROW

8th grade Spanish FLEX

We reviewed the forms of ser (to be). We practiced pronouncing the adjectives on pages 48 and 49. Assignment: Write 15 sentences using the forms of ser with the correct forms of the adjectives. (4 form adjectives must agree in gender and number; 2 form adjectives must agreee in number).

Science 8

Our 'Cell Theory' time lines were due today and shared with the class. We also began work on the microscope. I hope to start using them this week.

Special note: Due to the WKCE testing schedule I will not have my 3rd and 4th hour classes Tuesday and Thursday of this week. These classes received Tuesday assignment today as well...both the microscope assignment and cell structure packet are due on Wednesday for them. I will do my best to keep every class on the same learning schedule.

We finished reading Chapter 9 today...Due to WKCE testing I will not have regular classes on Tuesday and Thursday of this and next week. I assigned the reading of Chapter 10 for Tuesday, along with the study questions. This way we will not lose our place in the story.

Social Studies 8

Review of South America's physical features, countries, and capitals.
Middle School computer lab for students to continue working on their South America projects.
What should be done already: tech. ed charts printed, gov't summaries typed and printed, economic analysis typed and printed, pop. density analysis typed and printed.
What still needs to be done: type and print culture paragraps, create and print title page, organize and submit.
Projects are due at the end of the hour on WEDNESDAY due to WKCE tests tomorrow.
There will be no 3rd or 4th hours tomorrow due to testing, but students will have the full hour on Wednesday to complete their projects.

Today we corrected and talked about Chapter 2, Section 1 - Energy in Earth's Atmosphere. We went over again the main points, such as wavelength, infrared light, UV light, electromagnetic radiation, etc. The students had the opportunity to make corrections to the GRS, if they chose, during class today.

Students also met in their groups to discuss their flying contraption(s). The students have been talking about this project, and have assigned items that are being brought in. We will start this tomorrow. I do have some cardboard, plastic bags, paper, wire hangers, and Styrofoam.

Computer lab for project work: ALL students were to type and print their government summaries. Keep these safe and don't lose them! After that, students who still needed to work on their culture paragraphs were given time to do so, while students who had all their rough drafts done were allowed to begin typing them.
*Projects may be turned in early, but they must be COMPLETE (see "organization" section in the project packet)
*All portions of the project must be turned in at one time - random pieces of the assignment will not be accepted.

Check of South America maps for points.
Introduced the South America project - students will be completing part of the project in Social Studies, and part in Tech Ed. This is a long(ish) term project (due date is October 14). Students were given a detailed schedule (what we do each day, due dates for portions of the project, etc) as well as helpful templates for sections of the project. Ask your student to share their packet with you. This project should not require much time outside of class as long as students use the time they are given during social studies class to work on the project.

This assignment is due Friday. Mr. Rehm will be 'teaming' with me by showing students how to use excel.

More time was given again today for students to complete and submit missing assignments. There will be work time provided for this same reason for the remainder of the week. Progress Report grades will be submitted this Friday. No missing assignments will be accepted after this time - ample class time will have been provided prior to Friday, not to mention time students have to work in study hall and before or after school.
