Assignment: Orange packet that reviews the War in the Pacific, the end of the war, and the aftermath of the war. These packets are due tomorrow.

*Students were given Video Viewing Permission slips to be signed and returned by next Wednesday, June 3. We will be watching "Pearl Harbor" this year, and since it is rated PG-13 it is important that parents give permission. Students without signed permission slips will not be allowed to watch the movie.

We continued to learn about the War in the Pacific today including the Allied invasion of the Philippines, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and Iwo Jima.

Language Arts - 8 (5/26-5/29)

This week we will be in the computer lab finishing the business letters and typing resumes. The business letter and resume are due Thursday, May 28th.

Friday we will be free-reading in the library so make sure to bring your book to renew or turn in if it is due. There is a .05 cent fee for every day late.

Social Studies 8

Students began to view a video of the PBS series "The American Experience" about the Battle of the Bulge. It includes first-hand accounts and interviews from soldiers who fought in the Battle of the Bulge as well as footage of the battle and a narration. This video will take a few days to complete. Students have a study guide to complete as they watch. We will discuss this study guide at the completion of the video. Students will receive a grade for this study guide and will also be able to use the study guide on the WWII test.

We began taking notes on WWII. Notes will be turned in and graded EVERY DAY. It is the student's responsibility to make sure their notes are in the basket. If the notes are in your notebook, you will receive a zero for that day - the must be TURNED IN in order to receive points.
Students will be able to use their notes at the end of the WWII unit on the test or quiz.

Monday we will be brainstorming and beginning the rough draft, Tuesday we will finish the rough draft and revise, and Wednesday the final must be completed in class.

We began our WWII unit today by discussing the totalitarian governments that came into power after WWI.
Assignment: Students need to read p. 808-809 - describe the Lend-Lease Act and explain when and why American became involved in WWII.
