Mr. Smith's Math 7 Class: pg. 564 Lesson 1.1 (1-5) and lesson 1.2 (1-24)

Science 7

It has been such a great week! This week, we have gone over policies for my classroom, and have taken some time to explore what to expect this year in science. The students have already completed a bio glyph and are working on a packet due Friday, September 11. This packet (Making Connections) is worth the same amount of points that a test is, so it is important that they follow directions, take their time and put thought into their answers. We have been working on it in class both yesterday and today. There may be a short amount of time next week to work on it as we finish up for the period, but some will have to be completed at home. It is a longer term assignment, so they will need to budget their time. I am reminding them everyday :) Also, by Tuesday, their books need to be covered. I have been offering paper covers - they seem to do the best job - but a stretchy cover is fine as long as it is XL or JUMBO size. Have a great weekend...Make Good Choices!

Students were introduced to Basic Facts. This is a packet that students will recieve about every five lessons in 7th grade which will give them the opportunity to practice basic skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. There are a LOT of problems, but they are relatively easy. Students were given the entire hour to complete their packets and turned them in before leaving for the weekend.

Today we began our unit on United States Geography. Students viewed a two minute video which outlined the four major regions of the U.S. and pointed out major physical features of each region. We reviewed the regions and features as a class after the video.

Students turned in their completed table of regions and features for participation points today.

As a class, we labeled all the physical features of the U.S. that will appear on the U.S. Map Test (scheduled for next Friday).

Assignment: Label all the states (use abbreviations) and complete the States and Capitals Worksheet (list the capitals for each state). All the information needed to complete this assignment can be found on the inside back cover of the student agenda. Welcome Back to School!

This semester in social studies students will be learning about World Geography. Students can expect Map Tests (labeling physical features, political units, and knowing countries and capitals), Projects (both group and individual), Quizzes, Videos and study guides, and some homework.

Most assignments will be in-class assignments - rarely will there be a take-home assignment. Most of the "homework" assigned will be studying in preparation for the map tests. We will also review for map tests daily in class.

Students were made aware of grading procedures, classroom expectations, and the fact that Ms. Francoeur (the meanest teacher in the middle school) will not be giving hall passes this year. Students have been warned/encouraged to bring all their materials to class with them every day.

*7th and 8th hours also discussed that it is the student's responsibility to plan ahead for absences due to sports.

*8th hour students... remember to have your parent sign the discipline policy form and return to your 8th hour teacher as soon as possible.

Applied Math 7

Welcome to Middle School!
Students were introduced to classroom and behavior expectations (no hall passes from Ms. Francoeur) as well as the grading system. We reviewed what students can expect in math this year which includes an assignment every day (some will be completed in class, so not always homework), a test every five lessons, and practice with basic facts.
Questions or concerns please contact me at kfrancoeur@palmyra.k12.wi.us

Applied Math 8

Welcome back!
Many students in this class already know me (Ms. Francoeur) and the classroom expectations. We discussed the differences between what was expected in 7th grade math and what will be expected in 8th grade math. Students will be encouraged to work independently, will learn to manage and use their given work time, know when to ask for help, and know what to ask when asking for help.
Students should expect homework every day and need to come to class with all their materials since Ms. Francoeur is NOT giving out hall passes.
