7th grade math (moran)

Mid-Chapter Practice on page 170, problems 1-20. Also, on page 572 &573, Lessons 4-3/4-4 problems 2-26 EVEN. Class had 25 minutes of working time, many that used the time well are almost done.

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

We spent the class period reviewing for tomorrow's quiz (Wednesday!). Students need to study the forms of "tener" (to have), the four forms of "the," and the classroom vocabulary (book, notebook, backpack, etc.) It helps to make flashcards. The quiz will have the English words and the students will need to write the Spanish equivalents.

We discussed The Cell Cycle today. The students have a note-review to complete outside of class.
Remember the Chapter 2 test is on Monday...as well as the Prefix list I,K,L quiz too!

Literature 8


We began watchin Gulliver's Travels. A study guide that follows the movie is an in class participation/attention assignment. There will be a quiz at the end!

Students handed in their precipitation assignment from pg. 65. We discussed the various types of storms, the formation of storms, what we experience here in Wisconsin, and more. They have a storms assignment over the weekend, it is due Monday!

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

We reviewed the vocabulary for the classroom objects (paper, pencil, backpack, etc.). We reviewed the four forms of "the" (el, la, los, las) and we went over the forms of "tener" (to have).

We worked on a worksheet in class (on green paper) and went over the first side of it. We will correct the second side of the green worksheet on Monday.

There will be a quiz on all of the above sometime next week (perhaps on Wednesday).

Science 8

Prefix Quiz "H" today...and lists are due!
A review game to prepare for a Photosynthesis & Respiration quiz on Monday. Notes will be allowed.

Literature 8

We read the play "Fame" as a class today. We will finish reading our Scope magazine and have a study guide to complete on Monday.

Final day of research for informative writing.
Rough Drafts MUST BE written IN CLASS on Monday. Students will receive a grade for their rough drafts ONLY if the rough draft is done in class, and in the student's own handwriting. Typed rough drafts will not be accepted for points.

Introduced the Africa writing to inform paper which will be due next Thursday, November 19. Students will choose an issue in Africa and research this topic in order to write a 1-2 page paper informing the reader about that issue. Today is Veteran's Day! Students went to an assembly today where they heard from local veterans about their experiences in the military and overseas.

In social studies we reviewed our Africa maps, countries, and capitals. Map Test is November 23. As a class we read about the history of ancient Egypt. Then we identified types of questions typically asked in textbooks and answered them.

Question packets were due at the end of the hour.

Applied Math 7

Today we read and discussed the various cloud types and formations. Students had part of the period to work on their Tic-Tac-Toe projects for 2.4 Water in the Atmosphere. They have had 3 days of class time to work on the project. Many students have finished because they used their time wisely. If the projects are not completed, it now must be finished at home as homework. It is due this Thursday 11/12/09.

7th and 8th grade Band Students

Today, the students were instructed to bring their agendas to class. The students are to write "Band Lesson ___ Hour" on each day of each lesson. As they flip through their pages, they will have one band lesson written in each week and the hour that lesson will occur. The lesson schedule will stay the same as first quarter. If the student did not check off the assignment with Miss Becker at the end of class, the students will be required to show the written lesson times on Wednesday, November 11th during band!

There were some students who were unable to bring their agendas to class due to Mr. Whitmore having the agendas for grading purposes. They will need to have this completed by Wednesday, November 11th!

As the date becomes closer, it will be discussed with students that if they are going to be absent the 23rd and 24th due to deer hunting or family vacation for Thanksgiving, they will need to take the test BEFORE they leave (Thursday, November 19).

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

We reviewed the Spanish vocabulary for the body parts (which the students have in their notes). We had a practice quiz on the body parts. Tomorrow (Friday) they will have a quiz on the body parts. The students handed in their textbooks. The remaining time in the class period was spent watching the Spanish version of Pinocchio. On Monday these students will start their 8th grade health class.

Science 8

Today was a review day for the test. The students had part of the class time to finish and turn in their lab reports. We then studied for the test by completing a concept map and practiced cell structure identification. Extra credit offered for tomorrow: define the key terms on page 38. This will also help them study!

Today we finally were able to go outside and test our flying contraptions/apparatuses! It was interesting to see which designs were overall successful and what alterations were made on the spot to improve the gaining or sustaining of altitude :) Flying Rationales need to be turned in tomorrow!

**Remember, quarter 1 ends on FRIDAY! So, make sure to turn in missing work by Thursday 11/5/09!
