Science 7

We worked on turning our pictures into pixels. Some students even got to the point of using the binary code system. Due tomorrow is your picture in pixels - we'll talk more about binary code tomorrow in class. For those that did not bring a logo/symbol/image, make sure to have your alternative assignment completed for tomorrow.
I will send the Mapping Earth's Surface test home tomorrow, so make sure to watch for it! Part of the homework over holiday break will be to bring that back to school signed.

7th Grade Math (Moran)

Pg. 574 Lessons 5-1 and 5-2, all problems. Majority of students finished in class. Don't forget to bring back your test/quiz signed! Many are still missing...

Winter FIeldtrip


Hello All! Make sure you are prepared for our field trip on Wednesday. We will be leaving after attendance and arriving back to school about 2:40.
Things to bring: A bag lunch with beverage, warm coat, gloves and hat for skating. Money for concessions at the movie is optional.

Punnett square assignment was corrected and allowed to be used as notes on today's punnett square/vocabulary quiz.

Study for the chapter two test on Tuesday. Make a bingo card using the key terms from page 104 and these four: Mendel, Gametes, Chromosomes and Mutation (*Don't forget a Free Space). Define these 24 words for extra credit...due at the start of class on Monday!!

Literature 8

First hour: Vocabulary sheet was due today by the end of the hour; We also discussed pages 44-66 summary questions. "Tape" summaries were graded for a participation grade as well.

Second hour: Questions from Chapter Two were discussed. We read a short explanation of our characters and races found in the story. Assignment was to draw and color a Troll.

Health 8

Students practiced how to check an unconscious vicitm.
Use red insert on page 20 to identify in each of the 21 cases whether or not to call 9-1-1. You should have a yes or no answer written for each of the 21 examples to turn in tomorrow.

Health 7

Student learned about the stages of addiction, tolerance and withdrawal. Complete word search for clues to helping someone trying to quit smoking.

8th gr. Spanish FLEX

Today we reviewed the forms of "ser" (to be). We discussed the fact that the majority of the adjectives in Spanish can be written in four ways. The adjectives must be written so they agree in gender and number with the noun they are describing. A lesser number of adjectives have two different spellings. Assignment: Write 12 sentences describing your friends. Use two adjectives in each sentence. (many adjectives were written on the board for students to write down in their Spanish notebooks)

Science 7

Students took their test on Chapter 1, Mapping Earths Surface.
Remember to bring in a simple image, design, symbol for us to use when working with pixels.

7th grade math (Moran)

Sesame Street Genetics continued in class today.
Partners were chosen, Punnett Squares made showing the possible traits of the parent cross.
A data chart should be made as well as a family portrait. All work is due on Wednesday. The students will have tomorrow as a work day as well.

Literature 8

Our new class story has been chosen. First hour choose I am the Cheese by Robert Cormier; Second hour choose The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Today we read and discussed topographic maps. The students completed their 1.4 flashcards today. No homework for the weekend - unless there is missing work. The chapter 4 test will be on 12/17/09

7th grade math (Moran)

For Monday, Study Guide on pages 186-188, problems 1-10 and 12-66 EVEN. Students had almost the entire hour to work and to work one on one with me. If time was used wisely, a good portion of the assignment was finished in class.

Chapter 4 Test/Quiz is on MONDAY.

Health 8

Students read an article on Exercise and Sport Safety and reviewed for test on Monday. Test covers all fitness notes and pp. 74-89 in the book.

Project due on Dec. 17: Fitness Plan.
Students constructed a fitness plan that needs to be implemented at home from 12/10-12/16. Parent signature must verify workouts completed.

Health 7

Finished up Anti-Ads in class. If not finished, students should finish at home for Monday.

We corrected our Incomplete Dominance worksheet due today. We started a Sesame Street Genetics Project today as well. Students identified physical characteristics of common characters and listed their genotypes. All students selected a character and were asked to have it colored by Friday.

Science 7

Since the flashcards were due yesterday for sections 1.2 and 1.3, they were collected today. Also, we went over the GRS that was due for today (Students were repeatedly reminded of the due dates of these assignments - regardless of weather). For tomorrow, students need to complete 4 flashcards for section 1.4, all about topographic maps.

As a reminder, we will be having one more test before winter break. The test will be on either 12/17 or 12/18, depending on our pace.

7th Grade Math (Moran)

Due today was lesson 4-7, #7-36.
Assignment for tonight, due for tomorrow is the extra practice worksheets for lessons 4-6 and 4-7. The students had 25 minutes to work today during class. Many did not chose to use the time wisely, so they need to complete the assignment at home.

Our Chapter 4 test that was scheduled for Friday 12/11/09 has been rescheduled for MONDAY 12/14/09.

Students had an introduction on the four major areas we receive pressure to use drugs: peers, family, media and self. Students will begin to work on an "anti-ad" for tobacco or alcohol.

Health 8

Students completed a dynaband workout in class today to learn basic strength training exercises that can be done at home with minimal/no equipment.
Reminder: Test on Monday on pp. 79-89 in text and all fitntess notes.

Science 8

Pop Quiz on Genetics...all notes and vocabulary allowed. We discussed Incomplete Dominance today and the students were assigned an independent practice worksheet.

Literature 8

We corrected Part II assignment today and had a short quiz on the story using notes.

Family and Consumer Education

All 7th graders should be studying their cooking vocabulary, abbreviations and equivalents sheets. They will need to pass a test on these for them to work in the kitchens each week.
Learning this information early will make for a positive and fun ending to the semester. They should also have comprehensive notes on all six of the nutrients; carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, minerals, and water. They will also be tested on their knowledge of this information.

Punnett Square Project. Students were give a "Paper Pet" list of traits to use for predicting possible offspring. They then used those pets to cross with another group creating a third generation. All work is displayed in a pedigree format and will be presented tomorrow.

We finished reading Part I of Flowers for Algernon...by Daniel Keyes. The students were given a vocabulary and comparison assignment due Friday!

Math 7 (Moran)

Tonight's assignment is Extra Practice Sheets. They cover inequalities and 2 step equations.

We started our new book today! Make sure to cover your book and DO NOT use small stretchy covers, as it breaks the binding of the book.
