Students reviewed the issue of states' rights. What is it? The debate over who has the ultimate authority in the United States - the states or the federal government.
Students are now looking at the question, "Did South Carolina have the right to secede from the Union?" Students were assigned to be pro (yes) or con (no).
In a Structured Academic Controversy, both sides become familiar with their assigned stance, and then teach their stance to the other side.
Today, students were given materials to help them become familiar with their stance, as well as time to work with their teams in order to teach their side.
There is no homework from today. The SAC will continue tomorrow.
